Michael Bublé – “Crazy Love” Tour
Sydney - Acer Arena

Excitement, tears, lust, laughter…..what emotion didn’t I experience at this life changing concert on Thursday 17th February at Acer Arena in Sydney, just three rows from the stage!!!

When Michael Buble took to the stage, I thought that the Arena was going to erupt with all of the fever pitched energy and excited roars and screams!  It was thrilling, seeing the silhouette of the man himself through the sheer curtain and then it was pulled back to reveal Michael standing there in front of my eyes, in the flesh, his velvety voice feeding my ears and soul.

This was my first live, in person Buble concert, I have watched concerts on TV at home and thought how talented is this man! Seeing him live however, WOW! The DVD’s, CD’s and pay per view shows don’t do him justice.  His voice just melts you and his charisma, showmanship and mischievously witty banter is superlative.

Before I continue on about Michael’s incredible voice, the amazing band, the music, the lights, the fireworks, not a metaphor….I mean fireworks, literally.  I need to address his comical talent.  He had me and the audience roaring with laughter with his devilish wit!  He addressed some assumed views of him being so gay and then went on to say that if he were so gay he would be proud of it and have no problem telling the whole world and then pointed out a man sitting in the front row (two rows in front of me) and said “I would bonk you sir….. you sexy bastard”.  He then went on to address a couple in the audience assuming that the wife had dragged her husband to the show, when he was corrected by the wife assuring that it was the other way around and that her husband had actually dragged her to the show he laughed, paused and then said “Oh my god he is so gay’! Then gestured to the husband, himself and the ‘sexy bastard’ in the front row and mouthed ‘threesome’!  Before finishing his opening monologue he wanted to stress that it was important that we, the audience, enjoy the show and urged us all to get up and dance if we wanted to and that the ‘lovely security guys’ wouldn’t stop us and that if we wanted to sing, even if we didn’t know all of the words to the song, “to just go ahead and sing and if someone sitting behind you goes shhh! You turn around and say go f*** yourself”.

He showed such commitment and kindness to his fans by singling out one lucky lady who had very creatively made a sign that got Michael’s attention, it said: ‘You just haven’t met me yet’!  Michael pointed and read out the sign and then seeing that she had brought a present for him too, invited her to the front to deliver the present personally, he gave the lucky girl a kiss on the cheek, signed her poster and posed for a photo with her.  He touched many hands in the front row and then at one spectacular point walked out amongst the audience, heavily flanked by security.  He shook hands accepted the odd hug and then took to a platform set up towards the back.  We all crowded around the platform reaching out, hoping to be one of the lucky ones who got to touch Michael’s hand!  He sung his beautiful notorious ballad Home with an acoustic guitar and the audience accompanying and then went into his new hit Hollywood, during which he took his position back on the main stage.

Everyone was on there feet dancing, singing, just thoroughly enjoying every moment of this unparalleled performance.  The standards were flawless; You Don’t Know Me, Me and Mrs Jones, Crazy Love and many more, his hits left the audience exhilarated.  He even at one point got the audience singing along with him to I got a feeling by the Black Eyed Peas.

I have to say the best part of the concert for me, well actually there is a few real stand out moments; one was when he told the audience how he wanted to be Michael Jackson growing up and then with some persuasion from his band and the audience, did his impression of Michael Jackson, dance moves and all and I have to say again……how talented does this man get???  He can Moonwalk!!! His moves MJ perfect and the vocal impression, pretty impressive too!

Another standout moment; was the introduction of his beloved band, which again had the audience in stitches as he would give some cheeky and hilarious descriptions of the band members like: Joshua Brown, Trombone player, who Michael told us was “a dirty slut” and ‘that if pre-menopausal ladies in the audience made eye contact with this man whilst he was playing the Trombone that 2wks later they would be sitting in a café with their friends and would look across the table and say “I’m late”!

My all time favorite moment, was bitter sweet, because it also came at the end of the concert, was when he performed his traditional finale song; Song For You, he delivered it beautifully and then after the Trumpet solo from the audience, the curtains closed on the band, just leaving Michael by himself under a spotlight, the band fell silent and Michael gestured for the audience to hush, he stood there with no microphone and delivered the final verses of the song with just the shear force and projection of his astonishingly powerful voice.  It showcased his mind-blowing talent and passion and it was a seriously moving moment to experience live.  He finished this by yelling ‘I love you Sydney’ waving, blowing kisses and thanking us graciously for being a wonderful audience before leaving the stage.

In short; Michael Buble was transcendent!
