Michael Bublé – “Crazy Love” Tour
Sydney - Entertainment Centre

Everyone was waiting in anticipation for the cover act Naturally 7 to appear on stage as the time grew nearer to 8pm. Naturally 7 came on stage singing “I Can Feel It Coming in the Air Tonight” in their Vocalcappella (as they call it). This group is brilliant, they use their voices to make instrumental sounds and thus do not need back up. They continued to sing for approx. ½ an hour and whet our appetites for what was to come.

Soon after, the lights grew dim and the sound of the Buble Big Band could be heard throughout the centre playing the introduction to Cry Me a River then at the rear of the stage, Michael appeared and began to sing. The audience roared and cheered for their musical idol as he crooned the words to this amazing song. At the end of this song Fireworks lighted up the stage as the last drumbeat was struck.

He then proceeded to sing “All of Me” and began sliding down his sloped stage as only Buble does. After this, Buble welcomed the audience and noticed 2 children sitting in the front row with signs, not only did he read the signs, but he got to the front of the stage and as the signs were handed to him, he autographed them. What an amazing entertainer, he always has time for his audience.

Buble then proceeded to play with the audience by engaging in chitchat and being cheeky as only Michael can. During this time a marriage proposal was made. Michael thought this was great but was a bit concerned if the lady should say no.

Michael then started to introduce his big band; person-by-person he jokingly teased each one of his band members. No offence is ever taken, as they are all one big happy family, he treasures their talents and friendships a great deal. He actually compared one of this band members to Edward’s character from Twilight, this put the audience in fits of laughter. World on a String was next followed by his tour song “Crazy Love” which got everyone in the audience singing out loud.

Michael always thanks his audiences for spending their hard earned money to come to see him and likes his audience to feel at home, sing, dance and be carefree so he can take them away from their everyday lives for while. This made me feel very close and personal to him.

At This Moment was sung next, and then came Everything, a musical hit. Someone in the audience even threw a Teddy Bear to the stage for Michael, which he caught and put on top of the Piano.

Michael said that he had aspirations to be a film star as an actor and told us that he loved Michael Jackson, the next thing we knew the introduction to Billy Jean was being sounded, Michael got his hat and began doing a Michael Jackson impersonation.

Buble has an incredible stage presence and engages the audience in every song or word he utters. During the singing of Twist and Shout he began to kick huge white inflatable balls to the audience where they were thrown back to Michael on stage only to be kicked back again.Michael invited Naturally 7 back on stage, but they didn’t sing on the main stage, slowly they walked through the middle of the audience to a temporary set up stage. Michael wanted to be close to his fans and be more intimate with us. He then sang a few slower ballads being only accompanied by solo acoustic guitar.

I have been to few concerts in my time and Buble is the only entertainer whom I have every seen who has done this, he always has his audience’s best interest at heart and really cares that everyone has a great time. The experience feels like Michael takes you away from life for a while and it’s as if you are the only one person in the room and that he is singing/talking only to you. This is a great feeling! A special Feeling!!

Michael went back to the main stage and continued to sing a few more numbers and then once again, thanked everyone for being there and left the stage.

The crowd just roared and clapped and continued clapping for at least 5 minutes awaiting their idol to appear back on stage for an encore. Of course, Michael gave in and sang 2 numbers and left the audience mesmerized and wanting more.

Michael Buble is greatest entertainer I know, his music appeals to all age groups and it touches the souls of many. He engages his audiences and is very intimate and makes everyone who attends his concerts very special. As a fan, I would gladly spend my hard earned money to see Michael Buble each time he visits Sydney, it is always money well spent.

I am proud that as a musician and fellow Canadian that we have talents like Michael Buble to let us escape from life for a while, relax and enjoy his special kind of humour, love and music, which is the food for the soul.
